Fish for Beginners
Your first few trips to the LFS (Local Fish Store) may seem like a veritable buffet of bright, colorful and interesting fish. But as you can imagine, some fish are great for beginners, some are best left to advanced aquarists, and some are really best left in the oceans as their survival rate in aquaria is poor.
Royal Gramma
A great personality, beautiful colors, hearty eating habits and excellent hardiness makes the Royal Gramma a favorite among beginning and advanced aquarists alike.
Damselfish
Recommended with caution. The upside to these fish is that they are extremely hardy. The downside is, they are also extremely aggressive- some would even say violent! If this is your first foray into marine fish keeping and don't mind limiting yourself to just a couple of fish from the damsel family, however, these hardy colorful and resilient fish just might fit the bill.
BiColor Blenny
While it may be somewhat aggressive to similarly-colored tankmates, the BiColor Blenny is generally a hearty eater, hardy fish, and quite the personality to bring with you on your adventure into the Reef Aquarium hobby.
