Introduction

Foraminifer’s or Forams are a single cell protozoan which commonly appears as a white dot either on the rocks or glass of the aquarium. This is one of the unseen worker bee's of the reef system.

I would classify these as difficult as they are a good indicator of water quality, the higher the quality the higher the population.

Low to medium.


Placement

This will grow in all the same places as coralline but seems to prefer a darker environment. It will grow lower in tanks on the underside of rocks and in the substrate.


Feeding

Filter feeder or symbiotic with algae. It will live off of but not produce algae.

High water quality.

FAQ

Q,Are they harmful to my reef tank?

A, Yes and no they are actually a good indication of water quality. They do however require calcium and a large population may be a drain on your calcium. They can also grow inside your plumbing decreasing your water flow.
