Horn shark

Scientific Name Heterodontus francisci

Max. Size: about 39 inches/99 cm

Tank Size: At least 180 for pups, but the minimum for an adult is about 600 gallons.

Aggression: usually peaceful, but known to be an aggressive feeder

Hardiness: Hardy species, especially if kept between 64-75F

Reef-Safe: No

Physical Description

Heterodontid shark with brown coloration - as juvenile - has black spots, but these tend to fade as the shark grows up.

Distribution

Eastern Pacific - central California coast to southern Baja California

Behavior

generally peaceful but fairly active for a benthic shark.

primarily benthic invertebrates and small fishes

known to be Oviparous. may lay up to 20 eggs per season, pups hatch at about 6 inches in length, and grow at a rate of 3-5 inches per year.
