== Hello, and thank you for visiting! ==
I'm very excited at the response to ReefPedia from so many of the people we spoke with at MACNA XVIII this weekend. Thank you so much for your interest, and for checking the site out.

On Editing
You'll find that contributing to a wiki really is about as easy as posting on a forum such as ReefCentral or ReefSanctuary. Editing pages can be done easily by clicking the "edit" tab at the top of an article page. Some of the main portal pages are locked to protect us from spammers, so if you see a page without an "edit" tab that's why.
There are a couple new tricks to pick up, especially starting a new page, linking to an existing page, and external links. It's actually very easy, but it does take a little getting used to.
Starting a new page
To start a new page, you have to link to it from an existing page. If you don't know what page that would fit on, just create the new page link from the sandbox.
Creating a link
To create a link to a page, enter the name of the page in double brackets. It'll look like this:
[[new page]]
For a detailed step-by-step in case that confused you, try this: Help:how to add an article
Practicing
If you feel like you want to play around with the formatting, feel free to do whatever you want on our Sandbox page.
On article formats and breaking stuff
You can't break this site. Unless you're an honest-to-goodness hacker... in which case, please don't. ;) No, seriously, please concern yourself more with adding the information to this site than making it look too pretty... we'll go back and do all that later. What we need most is good, informed content on any subject you can think of in reefkeeping!
All the stuff you need to know: Check out this Cheat Sheet created by the good folks at Wikipedia, who authored the software that powers ReefPedia.
Linking to your site and resource boxes
Anyone, commercial entities or otherwise, who adds an article to ReefPedia is welcome to add a resource box at the bottom of the article with a link to their site. If you would like me to do that for you, simply email me (admin at reefpedia.com) and I'll be glad to do so.
You can see a list of people and companies who have kindly added to this site, and some of the articles they've added, at our Contributions page. for an example of a resource box, see the bottom of our Echinophyllia article.
Thanks again for stopping by... PLEASE feel free to contact me with any questions, ideas or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Travis Staut Administrator - ReefPedia
