[edit] Pyjama or Spotted CardinalfishScientific Name Sphaeramia nematoptera Max. Size: To about 3 1/2 inches Tank Size: (ADD HERE) Aggression: Very passive. Groups will form hierarchies through relatively mild-mannered chasing, gentle 'head-butting', and fin-flicking posturing. These should not be kept with aggressive fishes. Hardiness: Very hardy. Good beginner's fish. Reef-Safe: Fairly, although large specimens may pose a threat to small decorative invertebrates. Available as captive-bred: Possible, if rare. |
Physical Description
As with other Aponogids, the PJ cardinal has 2 distinct dorsal fins. The rearward portion of the body has several horizontal rows of purplish 'polka dots'. A black band is then found around the body at the front half of the first dorsal fin, through the pelvic fins. The head area is yellowish.
As the fish matures, the black band becomes grey, or shot with white. Red margins develop around the pelvic and first dorsal fins.
