Physical Description
This fish gets its common name from the characteristic black, arched "mask" covering the eyes. Body yellow with black bars/stripes.

Behavior
This is one of the hardier of the butterflyfish. Should be considered non-reef safe as it will readily devour zoanthids and other corals.
Feeding
Corals and marine invertebrates. Can be trained to take prepared foods or brine/mysis shrimp. Younger individuals typically take to a suitable aquarium diet more readily than larger specimens. Some larger C. lunula may refuse to eat in captivity.
Breeding
Not known to breed in captivity.
Current Views
A better choice among the butterflyfishes for a fish-only tank, this fish is attractive and readily available.
This fish is known to eat aiptasia anemones. However, one must be sure the raccoon butterfly does not also eat desirable invertebrates and corals!
